We live in a world where we just want to feel pretty. Be pretty. Look pretty. And most of the time, many of us just don’t. In fact, only 4% of women around the world actually think they’re beautiful. And that’s a very small number.
When I grow up, I want to be Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games. I want to become a tribute and save my sister and defend my district to the death. All while wearing pretty dresses designed by Lenny Kravitz. At least that’s what marketers, merchandisers, and pretty much everyone in the entertainment industry is betting their money on right now.
While the CW has never been a network that’s impressed with its ratings, it’s continued to tap into one universal truth. Teen girls (code = me) have been around forever. And they will be around forever. They’ll watch TV, they’ll aspire to be the characters they see on TV. And they’ll buy whatever those characters are wearing on TV.
