The name’s a nod to our Philly address, previously home to the Mike Douglas Show, the first nationally syndicated daytime talk show, where John Lennon, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Richard Nixon and hundreds of others had conversations that changed culture and even history.

Ask any psychologist what they believe to be the key to a powerful relationship, and you're bound to hear honesty at or near the top of the list. It's not rocket science…honesty is a necessary component to any successful relationship.

It seems that everyday there are new ways to track consumer behaviors in the data-rich online environment. We use everything from Google Analytics to Social Mention to Facebook Insights to learn about consumers. With consumers’ online and offline worlds bridging more with each second, research methods must follow.

60s, 70s and 80s advertising overflowed with powerful examples of writing. “Think small.” “A diamond is forever.” “There is no finish line.” “You don’t have to be Jewish to love Levy’s.”
Then the 90s happened, and visuals were all that mattered. People were—and still are—busier, so the thinking was let the pictures do it all. And in the aughts, it continued.

Ad agencies and branding firms like to inspire employees with foosball, pool tables and Madden. Our two floors at 1619 Walnut Street have plenty of that. But to me, they offer something more inspiring.

Recently, I caught Draplin Design Company’s colorfully-spoken Aaron Draplin lecture. It was a typical Wednesday night and my expectations were admittedly mild, but Draplin’s tales blew them all out of the water. By the end of the presentation, I felt inspired to take over the world.

This got me thinking about sources of inspiration. Our industry runs on creativity, and inspiration is the fuel. So how do you stoke the embers of creativity and keep ideas fresh?

	Ideas come from conversations.

Sure, one person can sit alone and create ideas. But nowhere near as many ideas as two people engaged in a conversation. This was Bill Bernbach’s revolutionary model. By teaming up two people from different disciplines—writer and art director—he could get more, better ideas faster than a writer just slipping his idea under the art director’s door to get illustrated.

What does 11:11 mean? I’ve read a lot of things: WWI ended in the eleventh hour of the eleventh month of the eleventh day (which is why we recognize our nation’s veterans today); the sun has an 11.11 year cycle; the number “1” representing the sun, the giver of life in Hindu mythology; the Nerd New Year. Yet, the most interesting piece of this whole puzzle is why we feel compelled to post on our social networks that we, too, have observed 11:11 on 11/11/11.

Thanks to the iPad, it’s now quite a bit easier.

Mother NY recently helped Kyocera launch something called The Echo Temple at the Virgin Mobile FreeFest, a music festival in Columbia, MD. You should definitely check out the video for a much more thorough explanation of what they did, but in twenty words or less, concertgoers were able to use this crazy technology to create music through their movements in the middle of a forest.

The idea of humans digitally checking in to locations is not going away; in fact it is growing like crazy.
